3D Character Art Rules
* 3000 tris total for character, weapons, and gear.
* 1024x1024 for diffuse, specular color, specular level, glow, opacity, and ambient color. Example, one 1024 diffuse sheet, one 1024 spec sheet, one 1024 Gloss sheet, etc. No Normal maps, no bump maps, no high res sculpting, No baking light info, and no painting normal maps in any fashion.

Hi All!! This is my concept for the Pre-DomWar V - Shadow. Just brainstorm some ideas about him, may modify him or i will tune down the detail of the design for the low poly model. wanted to use the hair as weapon, and use his hair to represent shadow- or make the hair change form to form a body for the skull at his chest armor.

The 3d progress started, try to use a new development method, start everything in Z brush.

Using a low sub div level in zbrush, and build the character like sculpting in clay.. more like a rough sketch of the concept design in 3d.. the focus is to build a rough form but not details, we will need to retopo later... fine details will only sculpt after retopo. so you can keep it pretty fast.

Sketch the hair on top of the sculpt form to check Silhouette or make final changes if needed.

Next, added the hair in Zbrush .. rough out the volume and check the silhouette of the overall design in 3D.

The next step will be retopo the zbrush model to max 3000 polygon ( Crazy tough), using zbrush's retop tools and maya topo tools, i finally done with the retopo stage with 2999 polygon count.. 3000 polygon budget is really challenging ..especially for the hair. next i will start working the UVs, and back to Zbrush to sculpt more details..

Unwrap UVs done, but haven't place them in a page yet.. still deciding to use 1x 1024, or 3 page of texture... need to plan it carefully for the hair. but good thing is i can go back to zbrush to bring him to higher level of details now.

back to Zbrush , break all the parts to different subtools, try to get all the fine detail done by tomorrow.. then start work on the textures.. time is running out soon.

The body, head, and the belt area's details level is done ... the rest are still sub level 4. I can't way for all to be done, and i have tired alittle A.O. test (my 1st time in this work flow).. i like the result alot... and i have tried to add a sketch material to my model.. and the shader cavity + my AO map have a really good result!. need to find a way to work with this in future..

That's what i have so far.. will do my best ( can only work on this at night after my day job) to complete this. will post more once i have new update.

A fast Update! need to get back to work on the textures... time is running out...

almost done (about 70% now) for the textures, added more details for the skull, added some polygon at the arm to pop those bones out from the arm's silhouette.(the polygon budget is from the back of his head...lol)
a few pieces of hair added to improve the head shape. also trying out glow map for the face, skull and the fingers to draw attentions.

things to do next:
- bring the light from top to bottom (painted), add more contrast to those focal points.
- some simple animation setup for the final pose
- a cool pedestal for him to pose.
- finalize the rendering method, i have 4 option ( mental ray, cry engine sand box, Marmoset toolbag or maybe just screen cap from maya )
- solve the seams.

Deadline will be on the 8th of Dec, 3 more days to go!!!

Today's update,

created a pedestal to fit this character, finalized using simple light in maya for render, the result is not bad. created a rig for him to pose.. weight painting is troublesome.

things to do next:
-touch up all muscles textures. (untouch yet)
-touch up the back textures.
-final pose.
- add more color to the face.
- some season effect for the skull.
- solve seams.

I just continuous from the same post, but this time will be the main war.

The topic this year is design a Powerful God .

My idea is pretty simple, dragon = god, warfare machine = power and authority, Futuristic = entertainment values, i m thinking of using Dragon or girl + futuristic + warfare machine to show the power, authority type of god. Think is still too early to confirm the detail. anyway i have to speed up my progress, everyone here is doing great and fast.

some early concept drawings:

this direction is more toward the dragon concept:
trying to make him transformable to 3 mode: god mode, dragon mode and war machine mode.( not confirm yet.)

below is the final design of one mode.. i call it the - warfare tank mode.

try to make his head to be the missile launcher like a tank in this mode.. added more details for the head design, some hair at the back of his head as a power charge form thunder and lighting to make him more god like.... hope you like it... comments and feedback welcome.

The more i look at the concept i did for the last post, i didn't have the feeling of a very special and powerful god, i go back to work on the concept a little more, and i have re-look at the 1st concept i have with the girl and machine:

woooooow~ur last post is amazing...the character's hair is really charming, and those nails with orange look fierce, reminding me of the lava from a volcanic eruption!!! Great Love~
as to the 2nd project, that girl kind of reminds me of Seytier from Durarara (not sure whether u've heard it or not~).
