I never said that I were right in the first place and I do admit that I have never been to any universites you mentioned . Actually I just give my suggestion to Chun 401 base on my experiences and there is nothing wrong to give comment in this forum . Moreover everyone has their own goal after they obtained the degree at the end of the day .

holding Degree or higher level degree does serve serval advantages ; like you said it helps us to explore the area outside Hong Kong and helps to get a job . However dont forget that other qualification that has similar level as ' Degree' and it also serve the same purpose . if someone want to work in Uk for example he can get a random degree course in achieve the visa .

I accept some other members feedback in this forum but you have to understand that everyone has their own perspective view in sharing their experiences

I never group ' degree ' in an negative side but I personlly believe that work experience is more important than 'degree' .To be honest does ' degree ' means everything to you even it can replace ' work experience ?

The reason I ask you is because right now I 'm working as a game artist in a small company and my colleages do not have a degree but he has at least 6 years work experience in game art more than me .

take it easy ayakiryu, it's understandable.
as I said it is nice to have a degree but skill and experience are important too. i personally held a degree but it is not related to art or animation, and i survived in this animation industry for quite sometimes now without any cert. or dip. But that's long time ago when I first got in the field, maybe things changed now for newcomers. you think the disney 9 old men got a degree in animation? I don't think so. lol

I admired people who got a degree from Cal Arts or Sherdian after I got in the industry, hope I can work my way to it some day. but if i had the money for my own education, I rather spend it on my kids now.

Once again, I do not mean to be blunt nor hurtful, however, Your point of discussion is slightly distorted. From your prior post you stated that this is no such a thing as "wonderful" university. All I was trying to amend the fact that there are great institutions that teaches and train you into a specialist in the field of animation. Although further in my writing I may have suggested that degree is quite important, but I was trying to relate to how a degree can fulfill the legal requirement of work visa in foreign countries.

Myself has been hired in two foreign countries, although neither is in UK. It was quite clearly written that in order to be a successful candidate of a work visa, the candidate must hold a degree. The degree needs to be related to your prospective job offer. Perhaps UK is a little different, as you have clearly stated that having a "random" degree will fulfill the requirement.

I'm not going into a heated debate whether you are right or wrong in your perception of the usefulness of a degree. You can share your experience and thoughts as you wish, I'm just making an obvious point that some of your given advise to the original poster is bias and perhaps it going to affect his future judgement.

There must be some form of misunderstanding. Myself is 110% with you on your work experience is more important over a degree. All I'm saying is, a degree is handy especially in a work visa to a foreign country.
University experience is a great platform to make expand your network, it will surprise you that perhaps your friends at school can be a great work reference.

What is good about SCAD or any other big name colleges, even though you paid a lot of money for the degree, is the network you could get from the professors and fellow classmates. A large portion of the TDs here at R&H are from SCAD and got recommended from their professors and alumni.

Also, if you would want to work in the US or UK, I think the work visa requires a bachelor degree.

But, degree is only a paper. You definitely need a kick-ass demo reel to get the best work out there.
